To make things easier on your scholarship hunting expierence for the 2010-2011 School year it would be wise to complete your FAFSA application before February 15, 2010.


Scholarships


FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Required for the BBNA scholarship. Required for governments grants and loans. Start this in February. The Alaska State Finacial aid deadline is typically April 15th of each year. Remember to apply early before funds run out.

University of Alaska Foundation: APPLY NOW!
Deadline is February 15, 2010

University of Alaska Foundation scholarships are available to students attending any campus of the University of Alaska (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Southeast and all community campuses).

Bristol Bay Native Corporation Education Foundation-A Scholarship for shareholders of BBNC for Higher education (part and full time status) and vocational training grants. Deadline is typically April of each year.

Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation
-A Scholarship for residents of Aleknagik; Clarks Point; Dillingham; Egegik; Ekuk; Ekwok; King Salmon; Levelock; Manokotak; Naknek; Pilot Point; Port Heiden; Portage Creek; South Naknek; Togiak; Twin Hills; Ugashik and are a full time student. The Harvey Samuelson scholarship main dealine is usually in June. The midyear application should also be available in November/December 2009.

Bristol Bay Native Native Association
-A Scholarship for residents from MOST Bristol Bay villages for mainly fulltime students and part time students when funding is available. BBNA also has a scholarship for vocational education. Deadline for 2009 was August 14. A midyear application may be accepted for students interested in Spring 2010 funding. Visit website or call 1-888-285-2262 for more information.

Bristol Bay Area Heath Corporation
This scholarship is for residents of the 34 villages BBAHC serves. It is tailored for those students seeking a medical related career field. Deadline for 2009 passed. 2010 application should be available in the spring/summer 2010.

ANSEP: Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program
Become a member of ANSEP for Engineering and Science related majors, even non-related majors can be a part of this group. Generous Scholarships are also given for members. A good way to get you foot throught the door is through their Summer Bridging Program. Visit their site here.

Bristol Bay Telephone Cooperative
-BBTC offers 3- $1,000 scholarships to college/ vocational students who have graduated high school, or will graduate from one the these communities: Naknek River District, consisting of Naknek,
South Naknek and King Salmon; the Kvichak River District, consisting of Igiugig and Levelock; and the Nushagak River District, consisting of Koliganek, Ekwok and New Stuyahok.

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium
Summer Internship Program/ Scholarship

ANTHC Education and Development department awards nine-week paid summer internships to approximately twenty-five (25) high school and undergraduate students and five (5) graduate students who are Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents. ANTHC grants these internships as an integral part of its long-term strategy of providing the highest quality health services to all Alaska Natives and American Indians and providing work experience in a range of medical professions and support services including: finance, human resources, health records, computer technology, engineering, maintenance, and housekeeping. Shareholder Job Shadow Program


A two-week job development program for high school students who live within Bristol Bay rural communities and are BBNC shareholders and/or descendants.

The goal of the program is to introduce rural high school students to the professional work environment as well as explore possible career options within engineering firms.

The program includes:
• Two weeks of professional job training in your area of interest.
• Exposure to various career fields within an Engineering firm.
• Weekly Professional skills training and some of the possible topics include: Resume building, professionalism & conduct, time management, college exploration, scholarship applications, and social skill development.
• Weekly group activities
• $10.00 per hour, 8 hours per day for two weeks.

Each student is paired with a mentor and supervisor who then guides them through their various work assignments.
In order to be eligible, students must:
• Provide their own transportation to and from Anchorage
• Have a place to stay in Anchorage with either a relative or friend approved by their parent or guardian
• Have reliable transportation to and from work

The program usually operates in June. Applications must be postmarked by March 30 th, 2010.
